  1. I would like to make few "Best of..." DVDs from assorted DVDs. I want to do it by selecting specific chapters and put them on a new DVD. Some will be for demo purposes for my HT. Others will be chapters from music concerts for workouts.

Is it possible to select the chapters I want on the DVD and download just those chapters or does the entire DVD have to be downloaded and then the selections made?

All I have now is the computer with a DVD writer. I would like some suggestions to the software that would best for this. Also, if there is any "How to.." on doing this, a link to that would be real helpful.

    Thanks

  2. You can select chapters by using ChopperXP,DVDDecrypter (IFO mode) or DVDShrink, then use TMPGEnc DVD Author or Ulead DVD MovieFactory to author.

Smartripper will rip by chapters also. You can use this with DVDShrink and your favourite burning software.
    If in doubt, Google it.

How I do it now is with DVDShrink. I select the bit I want and extract it (100% no comression).

I then use TMPG Author and suck in the vob's I've saved earlier. Voila your done. No re-compression. You do have to be careful not to use the #2 audio track with a clip or you will lose sound when it plays, fix that with IFO edit.

My personal favorite is my 'Best of the Zucher Brothers' DVD.

  6. This is very easy with DVDShrink. Just open the disk (or file), select reauthor and repeat until all dvds are open. Then select reauthor again and drag in the titles that you want into that final window. You can select the chapters in the selected titles and the soundtracks that you want for the compilation. No need for any other software. Shrink can do it all. If you want a compilation from many dvds, you may want to use shrink to rip the desired parts first so that all files are easily selectable when you build the final compilation in the final reauthor window. This is great for making selective burns of concerts on DVDs. Just select the songs that you want and get rid of all the extra stuff.

  7. jeephed, I forgot to mention something.
If you mix "DTS-only" with "AC3-only" titles, your compilation will probably not work.
It will depend on your set-top player though.
