  1. Do any DVD players play Low bit rate MP3s? I've tried six major brands, none will play anything lower than 128 bit rate.

  2. Norm3,

I just tested two 64kbps MP3s in my Pioneer DV-454 and they play just fine. So, I suspect that any Pioneer capable of MP3 playback will do the same.

    Hope this helps,

  3. I think I'm going to wait a while until I buy a new dvd player. I'm sure the will all play them in the future.

Wait just a bit longer (after Christmas) and go to a clearance to buy a low cost universal player. They now come in basic versions from companies like Denon and Pioneer - made in China products - and they cost comparativelly little.

I have (for a year now) a yamakawa player that played everything - short of DivX. I just bought a Denon universal player that also plays MP3 - and have tried bitrate down to 64kbps as well as VBR.

When you buy a player, check that it plays MP3 on DVD. Most just play them from CDR(W)s. I don't know what is the big deal to recognise a DVD filesystem and play the MP3 out of there, but most models in the market now don't.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
