Hi y'all!!
I've got a question about the ripping speed of my new LT-166S drive
When I rip a dvd-5 or dvd-9, my rip-speed starts at 2.6x, then it'll speed up to +/- 4x.
I'm using the latest firmware available, dma is enabled, newest aspi-layers are installed and the device is connected as slave on the primary-ide.
I've tried Smartripper and DVDDecrypter, but it'll remain slow.
Sometimes the rip speed wil go up to 7x, but nor for long, because it'll drop down between 4.8x and 5.2x. See my profile for system specs!
What else could I do to improve the speed??
I bought this drive because I've read some really good reviews of it (fast ripping) I've used the search option, but I couldn't find a similiar problem.
What I did found was that some of you guys/girlswere ripping at amazing speeds like 10x or even 15x

Please help me out?
Best regards Arjan

I have a lite on dvd drive (163d) and it rips b/w 6x-10x average. not sure whats up, but my model # is different.

sorry, i dont know what your problem is. my lite-on 166 has reached 16x on single layer dvd when i have used decryptor. might be cpu and hdd space, cuz on my older computer i had slow rip speeds but not on my new one.

CPU= Pentium4 3.0GHz FSB 800MHz HT enabled
Free HDD-space is approx. 30GB. -
dont know if it will help at all, but i have my dvd-rom and dvd-writer switched to cable select. if ya wanna check that out, it should only take you a few minutes. lata.

My config:
HDD-1: primary master (jumper set to master)
LiteOn 166: primary slave (jumper set to slave)
Sony DRU-510A: secondary master (jumper set to master)
HDD-2: secondary slave (jumper set to slave)
BTW, at the moment I'm ripping a single layer dvd, and it'll start at 3.4x, and it will go up to 4x, and then it'll drop back to 3.6x -
i got both my rom and writer on cable select in secondary, maybe that would be the difference?

Don't know what the problem is, but you could try to put both HDs on one IDE and the two drives on the other...just an idea...

No increase in rip speed.
Should I try to reinstall my mainboard drivers?! -
Maybe an error in reporting. How long on the average does it take to do a rip? Mine averages about 15 minutes to rip a dvd. (5 to 7 gig)
-
On average about 25 to 30 minutes
Doesn't matter if it's a DVD-R, DVD+R, original DVD-5 or original DVD-9, it just won't rip faster then max. 5x
