  1. Is there any tempgenc template to convert captured DV AVI
    (720x480) into half D1 (352x480) DVD compliant mpeg2? I have some VHS home
    video that I recaptured through digital8 camcorder.

    Under the Video tab, right click on "Size" next to the greyed out 720x480 boxes, select unlock (and ignore the warning) then change the res.

    Also, after you have changed your settings as explained above and gotten your settings just so that produce a file with quality to your liking, lock everything back up and then save as a new template that you can use for your half D1 stuff in the future. That way you have a custom template and all you really have to fiddle with in the future is your bit rate, depending on the length of your videos.
