  1. Hi,

I ripped a dvd into 2 discs, but both of them are around 82 min., over the 80min. limit of CDR. I was wondering if there is a way to make it fit into a 80 min. CDR. I thought I read something about changing bitrate, but I'm not too sure how to do that, and I would like to maintain the quality if possible at all cost. Any suggestion would help=)Thanks!

p/s: I know you can encode DVD format using TMPEG.
But you can't burn a DVD quality into CDR, can you? There is not a DVD burning selection in Nero 5.5. Nero only supports VCD and SVCD, am I correct?

  3. Once the MPEG files are made you can't lower the bitrate w/o re-encoding them.

You can make a DVD MPEG but some DVD players can't read it. This is known as miniDVD or cDVD (read the faq for more info). You can see if your DVD players supports miniDVD by checking the DVD Players compatibility list to the left.

Ok, how to adjust the birate. Click on "tools" to the left, then run the VCDhelp.com bitrate calculator. Choose either xVCD/SVCD (it doesn't matter) and enter all the info. This will give you the video bitrate to use.

Run TMPGenc and load the template you want (VCD or SVCD). For VCD, then load the unlock template (../templates/extras). Click on settings and choose either CBR of 2pass VBR for encoding.

For CBR enter the number from the calculator, for 2pass VBR use the number as the aveage.

I've skipped a few of the minor points, and other possible settings but you get the idea.

Well, you will pretty much have to re-encode. You can drop the video bit-rate, but if you don't won't to lose quality I would suggest setting the audio bit-rate to 128K if it is not. I imagine you are using a template which is probably set to 224K. Now, I don't know if this will get you 2 extra minutes you'll have to test it out to see, but it is an alternitive to dropping the video bit-rate. Just to let you know I use 128K for all my encoding. And I think the sound is pretty good. Also, I have read in this forum that TMPGEnc 2.0 encodes files a little smaller than the previous versions. So maybe a combination of these two suggestions will work. If not, unfortunately I believe you will have to lower the Video bit-rate.

  5. chaobox99,

As what everybody else has stated...

    Have you considered 90min media?

Furthermore, you should analyse what happened this time so that it doesn't happen again...
