I've used dvd2one, with constant and varable ratio and looking for a little better quality so I tried nero to see any difference. But When I imported the files to nero, after analizing about halfway through it I get a message "this dvd is ccs protected". I Used DVD Decrypter to rip and TMPGEnc DVD Author to Create my menu. I don't have this problem with any other programs like dvd2one or shirink. When Shrink is shrinking it status says: Not Encrypted. Anybody else have this bug with nero? I know it's not copy protected since dvd2one works and it doesn't work with copy protected dvd's

I've just tried it without reauthoring it with TMPGEnc dvd author and it works fine like that. Makes no sense. After I author it with dvd author it says it's copy protected.

I found a way around it, but, I shouldn't have to do all this .. I took the dvd files that dvd author created and used shrink to backup without shrinking it. Then I imported them in nero recode and that worked.
I want to find out which program does a better job (quality wise) shrinking the dvd, dvd2one, shrink, nero recode.

You have to rip to your hard drive first. The you can use Nero Recode. But the extra step of going to hard drive first isn't worth it unless you really want to save all the menu's and stuff. I think DVD Shrink is way better because it copies the disc to your hard drive while it compresses.

It was ripped to my hard drive first. I always rip it with dvd decrypter before doing anything to a dvd. I've done 100's of dvds.

It's smallville dvd 1. It has 4 episodes on it so after ripping it I used TMPGEnc dvd author to extract 3 episodes and I made a menu for it. Then outputed it. It was 5.44 gigs. That's when I tried to use nero recode and came up with the copy protection error.
But I don't get that error with the original dvd files before I re-author them with dvd author.
Also dvd2one works fine, which it wouldn't if it was copy protected, since dvd2one won't shrink copy protected dvd's. Somehow nero thinks it's copy protected when it's not.

I found out it's actually Vegas 4.0 making nero think it's copy protected. I tried to open a home movie I made from a trip to Texas and nero gives me the same error - "This DVD is copy protected" And since I used vegas to make a motion menu for my smallville episode that's what's giving me the error. I guess there's a conflict between the progams.
