  1. I have an AverTV studio card, and anyone who has one will probably agree that the software that came with it is awful. Anyway, I am using iuVCR and VirtualDub for recording TV. They seem a little overkill for simply recording TV (I also use them for capturing HI-8, which works great).

Can anyone recommend any freeware good for TV recording.

Better yet, how about a simple FM receiver software?

    Thanks

VirtualVCR is freeware and works with that capture card. Other popular capture programs that will work but aren't free (yet are rather cheap) include TheFlyDS and iuVCR.

I have the AverTV Stereo (same as yours but without the FM receiver) and currently after trying all three I just mentioned I have settled on TheFlyDS which you might be interested to know DOES feature a FM RADIO only mode.

  3. You still need an FM receiver card or some type of hardware with TheFlyDS to receive FM right? It's funny, I was just thinking about an office building I used to work in where I wasn't able to pick up any FM signals what so ever with my radio I had brought in. I bought a D-link USB FM receiver for about 10 bucks back then, plugged it in and it worked like a charm!

Well the original poster said he had the AverTV Studio which DOES have a built-in FM RECEIVER.

I have the AverTV Stereo which is a step down and is exacting the same but WITHOUT an FM RECEIVER.

So no I can't get FM RADIO from TheFlyDS but the original poster would be able to get it with his capture card.
