  1. I bought a new comp recently..

    2.6GHZ
    1 Gig ram
    80 Gig HD
    ATI all in wonder 9000

This comp was supposed to be only to convert some of my VHS tapes to DVD. I generally use ULEADs (Vide creator, etc..) encoding software. My problem is this. I am not happy with the quality I get when I encode and burn. The video is eocoded at 720 X 480 at 29.8 fps and the audio is fine whatever it is set at. The picture does not look smooth when I view the finished product. Frames aren't being dropped or anything, but when there is motion is looks a little jerky. It is not smooth like when you watch something on TV or a VHS. My question is this...

Am I not using the proper video card for what I want to do?
Is my video card fine and I'm not using it right?

My goal for this is to burn and view the DVDs and the quality to be almost exactly what I see if I were to watch the source tape.

I bought a new VCR for this and have the output of the VCR going to an adapter cable (that came with the video card) that incorporates the video and both audio and directs the signal into the video card.

Any advice anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. I hate investing this much money and not beinbg happy with the results.
    Thanks guys.

  2. I'm sure it isn't the card. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with VCR capture enough to help you out. I just wanted to post some consolation for you while you wait for LordSmurf or some other savant to post.

If you have the ATI AIW you can capture direct to MPEG2 with MMC.
I would do that to see how it looks. Save vast anount of time too.
    either 352 x 480 @ about 3500kbps or 720 x 480 @ 4500kbps or more.

The other way is to capture AVI with MMC either Picvideo or Huffyuv
and encode later with TMPGenc . It's hard to get better that that.
...and you can edit your video easily.
