  1. I have just added a new Hard Drive to my system a Westen Digital maxdor 120 gig with 8 meg cache. This has been added as a slave to a cd writer on the secondary ide channel with primary use as storage space. My other drives are segate's both with 2 meg cache a 120 (slave Storage) and a 80 gig (main).
    I am amazed at the diffrence in time programs like svcd2dvd are taking to process files.
    See these 2 log files for processing the same file....

    So what a diffrence having a faster drive makes...
    9 mins for a 8 meg cache against 54 mins for a 2 meg cache

    Isn't having harddisks of different brands in the same machine/on the same controller asking for trouble?

  3. It can be trick to have 2 brands i had trouble too but when you get the sequence of the disc right it is alright.

    I think you win time cause it has 8 mb cache now.

    Eh, got 2 segates on master ide channel and a cd-r and a w/d maxdor on the other ide channel...
    Never heard that one about diff disks causing problems....I got another machine with two diff brands in on the same channel and thats been running for over a year with no problems..

    I think you win time cause it has 8 mb cache now.
    Just suprised by how much diffrence it makes and price wise it was only a extra £3.
