I was in Wal-Mart tonight and in the cheap software section they had a CD-ROM called DVD Ripper. It was selling for $6.92. It will convert DVDs to VCD, SVCD and DivX. I think this is probably a combination of various freeware programs bundled together with a different Graphical User Interface! Just thought I would let this be known and to see if anyone has heard of it.

OK, fine, if I see it I'll buy the sucker. At $7.00, I think I'll find a way.

the only thing this software rips is the folks that buy it. it just doesn't do what you'd think it would do reading the package.
both of your drives (dvd player and a cd-r/rw) have to be internal.
AND it won't copy copyrighted material that's been hardcoded (virtually every new dvd) or take macrovision out.
