How do I burn VCDs on a DVD-r media? Where can I find a step-by-step guide?

Sorry, I would like to be a bit clearer about what I would like to do.

I have avi files which I have convert to mpg (vcd format). Now I would like to burn them on dvd-r media instead of vcd. How do I do it?

If I would like to keep my movie as vcd format, when I burn them onto dvd-r using TMPEGEnc DVD Author, can I follow the 'how to burn dvd using TMPEGEnc DVD Author' guide (since my mgp files are not in dvd format)?

I have seen a guide using DVD-Lab to burn svcd on dvd, can I follow the same guide to burn vcd on dvd using DVD-Lab?

Between TMPEGEnc DVD Author and DVD-Lab, which would you recommend? I have never use both of them.
