  1. BenQ Europe has released some details on their first dual format DVD writer, the DW822A. This new drive features 8x DVD+R and 4x DVD+RW writing speeds as well as a maximum DVD read speed of 12x. Here are some of its specs:

    Write Speeds
    DVD+R: 8x
    DVD+RW: 4x
    DVD-R: 4x
    DVD-RW: 2x
    CD-R: 24x
    CD-RW: 10x

    Read Speeds
    DVD-ROM: 12x Max
    CD-ROM: 40x Max

    Buffer Size: 8MB

    Seek Times: DVD 160ms and CD 120ms

    Along with the 8MB buffer, the DW822A offers features like booktype management and Walking OPC technology to provide the best writing quality possible. More importantly, BenQ is planning on selling a firmware update that will add support for dual layer DVD+R later this year. More information on the DW822A can be found on BenQ Europe's.

    BenQ already has a dual format writer in the DW800A. No dual layer burning, but dual format yes. So the DW822A wont be their FIRST dual format. Pick one up at office max for $69.00 today !! LOL. Make sure you get the one made in Malyasia though. :P

  3. But according this source, its the first "confirmed" burner that will be dual layer upgradeable in the future.
