I have a Pioneer DVR 5100H-S and would like to connect it directly to my PC using the firewire port. Unfortunately the DVR only talks with camcorder devices and I wonder if you know of any piece of software that can act like a camcorder on my PC.

Bummer...
Will a DV converter do what I want (eg. allow me to transfer files between DVR <-> and PC). or is there any other hardware I can put in my pc so it acts like a DV camcorder? -
The only way I know of to record video from a PC to a standalone recorder is using TV out on a PC and composite or S-video in to the Standalone recorder. Play the movie fullscreen and press record.
Probably not what you were wanting to hear but AFAIK its the only way.
