  1. Hi all,

I just bought a Zenith brand DVD player, it is actually made by LG.
It was only $69.99 Canadian - bought at Costoc. ( That's about $50 American funds )

Anyway, the DVD player screen on the actual unit does NOT show the letters "SVCD" when I insert a SVCD disc, - my very old Electrohome does.

Can anyone give me info if the Sony DVPNS325 does ? ... I read thru countless reviews on this, and don't find any info on this.

Also, does this Sony model play RAW video files on disc ?
Many players can read video files in .mpg format, that you just copy to a cdr disc, - the Zenith I just bought doesn't and since I do this a lot with videos of my kids, this makes me want to take back this Zenith and go with a better player.

If anyone can post any info, I would really appreciate it, also, does anyone have an image of the remote that comes with this Sony ?

    any help MUCH appreciated.

    Mark.

Well, I have the DVP-NS999, which should be very similar to your unit other than it weighs a bit more and costs a LOT more <G>.

It doesn't say anywhere on the unit or box that it plays SVCD's, but when I put an SVCD in, the on-screen display reads "Super VCD" and it plays fine and dandy.

As a bonus, the SVCD's I've tried have all been PAL and the player has no problem playing them on my NTSC TV.

Have not as yet tried any raw MPEG-1 or 2 files on discs. It definitelly will NOT play raw MPEG-4 avi files (never really expected it to, just tried it for giggles).

  3. @ logopro,

There are 27 reports on this website regarding this DVD player. It's currently on sale at Wal-Mart for about $90. I myself took an SVCD to Wal-Mart yesterday and it played my disc fine. My SVCD was 'in-spec' so I cannot speak to its XSVCD abilities, but it was an 80-minute CD-RW.

I have that player. It plays DVD +/- R and +/-RW formats just fine. Also plays all my NTSC VCD & SVCD disks, standard and non-standard, and CVD. It doesn't like PAL though.....I get the green lines with PAL stuff. Other than that I have no complaints with it.
