  1. Is it possible to play a Mini-DV tape in a Sony Hi-8MM camcorder?
What are the differences in the two tape formats?

  2. They are physically and logically incompatible. In other words, you can't play a MiniDV tape in a Hi8/D8 transport.

In fact, a miniDV tape is about 1/2 the size of a Hi8/D8 tape. I'm working with someone on a DV project and they are using a D8 cam. I keep forgetting to take it home to get the damb DV off the tape. "It just don't fit in my minDV cam !"

Some confusion here may be that DV compressed video can be recorded on a Hi8 tape by using a Sony Digital 8 camcorder. This video is just like the stuff recorded on a miniDV tape by a miniDV camcorder. It is digital and can be transferred via firewire to a computer.

As far a "logically" incompatible ... is this a 'she' thing ?

  4. Yes! You can put a MiniDV in a Hi8 camera since it's way smaller. The transport won't close though.... But
