  1. I seem to be having problems with titles when using DVDShrink.

For example, I was backing up Daredevil onto one disc. I only wanted the movie (on the first disc) and the Jennifer Garner screentest (on the second disc).

So I ripped the Jennifer Garner screentest to my harddrive first and then popped in Daredevil disc one. I re-authored the disc to include the movie only, then opened the Garner screentest file and included that, too. The re-authored version ripped to my hard drive without a hitch. So far so good.

I burned the files to my Maxell DVD-R. Then I popped the disc into my Apex AD-660 and the movie (which was assigned Title 1) played like a charm. No problems. But as soon as the film was over and my player tried to get to the Garner screentest (which was assigned Title 2) the disc crapped out!

I've had this happen before on other discs. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I doing something wrong?

    Cheers

I would say you may have gone wrong when ripping the screentest. DVDShrink can rip for you so you don't have to rip beforehand but it is a personal choice. To be safe rip the entire contents of each disc to your HD.

    1. Open DVDShrink
    2. Load Disc (on the fly) or Load Files (pre-ripped). (Main Movie)
    3. Open Re-author window.
    4. Drag Main Movie title to re-author window.
    5. Load Disc or Load Files.(Screentest)
    6. Identify which title is the screentest and drag that into the re-author window so it sits below the main movie.
    7. Backup.

It should be as easy as this.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. ^^^ That's pretty much what I did.

I ripped the screentest first with DVDShrink since it was on a separate disc.

Should I be ripping the entire disc to my harddrive, though, instead of just the screentest?

you answered your own question...yes Shrink will only work with a fill rip, or a partial w/ an IFOEdit workaround. once you do a full rip of the 2nd disc you can identify which title is the screentest and D&D that as title 2 in the re-authoring window as you did before. good luck.

  5. Thanks, noki!

*bangs his head against the wall*

I thought that might be the problem.

    So, just to summarize:

    1. I should rip the entire second disc to my hardrive.
    2. After that, I should pop in the first disc.
    3. Select "re-author" and drag the film portion to the new window.
    4. Select "open file", the select the screentest and drag it to the new window.
    5. Rip the re-authored stuff.

    Thanks!

  6. Hi all.

StinkyDVD, you did it right the first time.
This is a known DVD Shrink issue that dvdshrink (the developer) will try and fix for the next release.
PGC Command Table in re-author mode
Seems that the current set of commands generated by DVD Shrink (which ensure sequential playback of re-authored titles) cause problems on some players. I'll look into some alternative commands which do the same thing.

P.S: have you tried playing the backup in other players (your PC's, for example)?
This would help confirm what the cause of the problem is.

The screen test is at the end of the disk, it can be bad media also?

Hit stop/ Menu / then select track 2 and see if it plays. I don't have this particular problem on my APEX 1201 or my other players.

  8. StinkyDVD, you did it right the first time
i think ddlooping might be right. i re-read the original post and he did say he opened the screentest in shrink to drag the title....if there was a problem with the partial rip shrink would not have opened the movie. this is also a first; i did not think shrink handled movie-only rips as input since it looks for files not included in this partial rip (which is why IFOEdit is used to recreate the missing ifos) at least i have never been able to do it good luck StinkyDVD.

Noki, unless I misunderstood, StinkyDVD used DVD Shrink re-author to rip the screen test from the original disc.

  10. ddlooping is right.

Thanks for the info! I tried playing the DVD on my PC DVD-ROM drive and (even though it spun a bit) it finally played with no problems. So perhaps the issue is with my APEX player and, as you pointed out, perhaps some issues with DVDShrink.

P.S. - I also tried accessing the screentest seperately through my player's title menu and that didn't work either.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers
