  1. Looks like Best Buy has TDK 2x DVD-R on sale again (although in the 25-pack) for $29.99 and free shipping.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051826236701&skuId=5395645&type=product

I believe that the last day for the sale is Saturday December 13th.

If the package says MADE IN JAPAN it is the MXLRG01 but if it says MADE IN TAIWAN then it is the RITEK media.

I just bought a 5 pack (in a pinch and needed some quick) at TARGET and they were $15.99 for the 5 pack but they came in standard DVD cases (not jewel cases) so since I was in a pinch I thought that the price wasn't TOO unreasonable.

It said made in Japan and they were the MXLRG01 discs which are great. I had one I burned out to 4.3GB (just a tad more than I normally do) and there were absolutely no READ ERRORS using DVDInfoPro.

Quality media costs bucks what can you do?

Is it 100% that the Riteks would be G04? This is definitely a good deal if they are 4X G04s, not so much if they are 2X G03s.

  5. The media database here does not list any TDK branded DVD-R's that are RITEKG03. It lists RITEKG04, MXLRG01, and a few other codes. I don't think anything is 100% certain until you put one in your player and look at the media code. I have bought identically labelled TDK 2x DVD-R's at Costco where one set were actually RITEKG04 4x media and the other was MXLRG01 2x media.

  8. It is American. The best place local in Ottawa to get RITEKG04's is the 15-pack TDK DVD-R spindles at Costco. They work out to $2.44 each. The best place I have found to buy them though is www.blankmedia.ca. So far I have made 2 orders from them with no complaints. They are located in Southern Ontario. They have G04's for around 1.80 each.

Any way to tell from the packaging which TDKs are TDK 2X and which might be Ritek G04 4X? I know it will be the Maxell media if the package says 'Made in Japan' but not so sure on TDK vs. Ritek.

TDKG02 made in Taiwan, but RITEK are also made in Taiwan. Not sure what Japanese discs would be...

As I said I bought a 5-pack from TARGET that said MADE IN JAPAN and they code was something like MXL RG01

These burned at 2x on my 4x NEC ND-1300A but they are listed on the package as 2x so that didn't really bother me. I will say that the quality of these must be very good. I filled one DVD up to 4.3GB and DVDInfoPro reported NO read errors when I did the test after the burn.

Of coure this 5 pack (which came in standard DVD cases instead of being a cake pack or in jewel cases) was $15.99
