Folks, I admit to being totally and embarrassingly clueless as to the terminology used on this site and exactly what it might all be about.

I do have a question to which everyone here surely knows the answer so I hope your response to a poor, bumbling creature such as I will be forthcoming.

I don't have a TV but would like to watch some old movies. Is there any way I can watch a VHS tape on my PC?

Many thanks for any help you can provide, for I am MYSTIFIED.

The cheapest way of doing this is to buy a PCI TV tuner type capture card. They have an RF input for cable TV as well as A/V hookups such as what a VCR uses.

I bought an AverTV Stereo from CompUSA for $49.99 and it works well. Most PCI TV tuner type capture cards are in the $40 to $60 range.

  3. You need to buy a TV/Captrue card for your PC that you can hook your VCR up to. You should be able to get one for <$40 somewhere but make sure it has the correct input connection for your VCR output. Check the capture card section located to the left on this site https://www.videohelp.com/capturecards.php?CaptureCard=&videoin=1&tvtuner=1&searchconnec...Submit2=Search

or just go down to your elctronics store and browse for one.

Thanks, FulciLives, Machine Man, donpedro, and Bodene for imparting this knowledge to me. It will be very helpful in achieving my ends.

Bodene, they WANT you to have a TV in the 21st century. The word is out that they will make announcements to you through your TV. What they consider "public service announcements" for the sheople.

Hey, Lord Smurf, good info your link provided. Thanks.

Bodene, I agree it sounds laughable now, and I prefer to continue to laugh as well, unless and/or until it becomes a reality. I love the rolling smiley! Kudos.
