Not too sure what you mean ... forty-two will output DivXs as an .avi file. These files didn't used to have sound unless you doctored but since qt6.3 they seem to have sound even as an avi. I once posted a question about this and one of the authors of forty-two said that the forty-two .avi output was unchanged, so it must have been the way qt handles sound in avis that was fixed.

qt can't (or couldn't) handle divx's with VBR mp3 audio or AC3 audio. not sure about ac3 but im fairly sure the VBR thing has been fixed now. I just use MPlayerOSX anyway, it rocks ^_^

the output will have audio, problem is it takes a particular app to play the audio back. For example... quicktime can most likely open a divx, but wont have any audio playback
VLC and Mplayer OSX will play them back with no problems.
is that your question, or are you asking how to make a divx on a mac? -
sorry, should have been more specific. im talking about the actual liscenced DivX codec. so Divx 5.1 . I need it for my new shiny archos av320. The problem is........when i select Mpeg2decx 0.19, it goes till around 50%, then unexpectedly quits. With Diva, it just quits, and with all the oher programs, i cant even select it. There a way to get around this?

- Open the MPEG-2 stream in DiVA. Set the width to 640 or whatever and hit auto-crop. Adjust as needed. In the main window, click the compression button, choose DivX 5.1 as the codec, set the mode to "Multipass, 1st pass," and the bitrate as desired. Back in the main DiVA window, set the output to some file. Click start, wait for it to finish. Go back to the video compression window, back into the DivX 5.1 options, and set the mode to "Multipass, nth pass". Keep everything else identical, then click Start again. This should create a QuickTime .MOV file with one DivX 5.1 video track.
- Open the AC-3 audio stream in mAC3dec. Set the Format to MP3, then click MP3 Options and set the sampling rate to 44.1 KHz, and the Method to CBR. Do anything else you want in here, then go back to the main window. You probably want to make sure that Normalize is on, and in mAC3dec preferences, you might want to turn Dynamic Range Compression and Dolby Downmixing on. Hit start, and you'll get a lovely .MP3 file.
- Open both the .MOV file from step 2 and the .MP3 file form step 3 in QuickTime Pro. With the audio selected, go to Edit->Select All, then Edit->Copy. Go to the video file's window, then Edit->Add. You should now have a single movie with both MP3 audio and DivX video.
- Finally, go to File->Export…. Set Export: to "Movie to DivX AVI". In options make sure both audio and video are set to pass-through. Hit Save, and presto, you should now have one of those crappy DivX AVI files that windows users love to pass around on Kazaa.
Now, where does this crash you mentioned occur? -
Sorry for veering off topic here - I just had a chance to play with the Archos last weekend (cousin stayed over and he'd just got one). A pretty sweet item
(would have been sweeter if my laptop also had USB2
- copying 6 gigs over normal USB sucked.
However I did notice my cousin's movies were all in quite a small format (dimension-wise, something similar to VCD dimensions), although each movie was still in the 600 MB range. However playback on a full size TV the quality of his Archos-ready movies was noticeably worse when compared to one of my forty-two 1-CD 3ivxs, even though they were similar sizes (approx 600MB- but not similar dimensions). I am wondering if this was just due to my cousin doing some crappy encoding, or is it purely because of the smaller dimensions? Or is my cousin just totally mistaken about the required format and it is possible to play back a larger format movie on the Archos as well? -
The error occured when i converted my VOB file in Diva and Mpeg2decX 0.19 at around 50000 frames, it unexpectedly quits. I need Mpeg2DecX for the subitles feature.
I love my archos, it rocks. The reason it is encoded on such a small size, is because the screen for the archos is a 352x240 pixel sized screen(I think). So archos says that when encoded at 320x240, or 320x176, it will look like a dvd copy. He probobly used the DV-R to make his movies, which is a last resort. Its file sizes are HUGE. I have a movie, 320x176, that is 1.5 gigs. Its insane. I am still trying different ways on how to make these movies, but so far theyve had alot of flaws. I wish archos would make it possible for actual MP4 files could be played. then OpenShiiva would come in handy. O well. ill keep you posted on if i get it working."Good Luck 007"
