this is my first time posting on this site, but i have viewed this site since i have owned a dvd writer. here is my sure fire way of putting dvd 9 to a dvd 5(+ or -) the initial cost is expensive but after this you will never look back. first purchase a phillips dvd home recorder from argos etc. then purchase a 'video signal conditioner' mine came from maplins(around £40) also needed is a pc dvd writer. first place the film to be backed up in your video or stand alone dvd player, connect your dvd/video to your dvd home recorder via the video signal conditioner box. insert a blank dvd+rw into the recorder(if no pc is owned substitute the dvd+rw for a dvd+r and finalise after recording). then play the film and record to the recorder. when finished transfer the dvd+rw to your pc and using record now max image the film to your hard drive and write it back to whichever dvd format disc you please. there is one problem if you finalise the dvd+r disc it cannot be imaged by most pcs after. so cost of this is a dvd or video player (around £50), a video signal box (£40), philips dvd recorder (up to £400) and an optional pc dvd writer(around £100) i have backed up all my own dvds in this way and have not found any problems fitting any length films to a dvd disc or encountered any coding problems, therefore although it is expensive it is 100% reliable and easy.

1) Expensive
2) Time consuming
3) Complicated
4) Unnecessary
If you have the DVD Writer on your puter, that and some free software is all u need. By the time you'd get everything set up and get thru the opening credits of the movie yer copying, I'd be standing there holding my completed backup. lol
Why don't you put together a detailed step by step guide to your technique and submit it to this website for listing. Ya never know.
