Hello. i downloaded some movies, and use TMPeg to convert them, then use TMPeg dvd author but i can only burn 1 movie to a dvd.
the movies are small only about 400meg.
i tried to burn 3 onto one disk but it said i ran out of space on the disk
do you think when im converting the avi to mpeg 2 format in tmpeg plus where it says bitrate setting, i should decrease the % of disk capacity?? coz the movies arnt great quality anyway.
or if there is any other way??
    please help

    hi,
if you use the VCD template in TMPGEnc you will get 3 or 4
movies on 1 DVD, i got lord of the rings, 1 and 2 and signs on
1 DVD, I dont know why but the movies play and look better
    on DVD than on VCD.

    Hi,

if the quality of your source movies is not that great to start with you can convert them using the VCD-template of TMPGEnc the only thing you have to keep in mind is to change the audio sample bitrate to 48000 Hz (for this you have to unlock the options first). If your source is 25 frames per second VCD resolution should be 352x288-PAL-resolution. Otherwise you will either have 23,976 or 29,997 frames per second and you will have 352x240-NTSC-resolution. You can also author them with Ifo-Edit.

I already have merged 4 movies onto a DVD with a total lenth of 7 hours and 18 minutes.

What do you mean with "the gob is to large"?? Do you mean the GOP (group of pictures) is too large?! This should be appropriately set using the prefixed templates of TMPGEnc.

  6. You might also try using DVD Shrink on your final folder, before you burn, it'll make sure it's a good size for you, without worrying so much about bitrates.

Just make a right-click on the name left of the greyed parameter-item you want to change an click on unlock and thereafter on yes within the next pop-up window. By this the parameter-item is editable so that e.g. you can change the audio sampling rate from 44100 Hz to 48000 Hz as required for DVD playback.

Otherwise if you use the project wizard don't immediately start encoding after the last (5th) window of the project window by unchecking the appropriate tick-box. After that you are left with the main window of TMPGENC. Now load the "unlock" template by clicking on load an then search for the unlock.mcf-file which is in the Extra-directory within TMPGENC's Template-directory. After you have loaded the unlock-Template all features which reasonably can be changed are editable after you click on settings. After you are finished with your settings you can finally start your encoding.

    Good luck

Actually TMPGEnc has a DVD template called "Low Resolution" which will make a DVD compliant MPEG-2 file using the VCD resolution.

So if you need to re-encode AVI files for DVD and are happy with the quality of VCD then you should really use the template I just mentioned rather than the VCD template.

However since it uses MPEG-2 instead of MPEG-1 you should probably use a slightly higher bitrate than the standard MPEG-1 VCD bitrate of 1150kbps but I doubt you would need to go much higher than maybe 1500kbps for roughly the same as VCD quality. At least this way you have a compliant MPEG-2 DVD that will play PROPERLY on ALL DVD players.

Some DVD players will not play DVD discs that have VCD MPEG-1 files on them even if you "fix" the audio to 48k.
