My first ever attempt at ripping and compressing a movie (American Pie 2) took 4 hours using anydvd and clonedvd on my pc.
I took the same dvd to work and used a 1ghz G4 Mac with 1ghz ram. With the help of dvd backup and dvd2one I had a burned dvd in my hand in about 1 hour.
I thought it may be the programmes i was using on my pc so i downloaded dvd decrypter and had a go at using that - around 3 hours to rip the files alone. But one thing i did notice was that on the guide i was following it had a read rate of about 4x whilst my read rate was between 0.6x and 0.7x. I was under the impression the pioneer had a read rate of 6x.
I tried another couple of bought dvd's and got the same results.
I know my pc is not the fastest (AMD 1.3 processor, 640mb ram), but it is not 4x less powerful than the mac, and i was wondering if it was the dvd drive that was the problem.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated
