I am now using Dazzle DVCII to capture VHS to VCD & DVD. The end result for VCD is not very good. I intend to change to Instant DVD+DV by ADS Tech. Can anyone give me some advice whether this product is much better than DVCII. I know Instant DVD+DV accepts DV in so it should product better quality VCD & DVD when capturing DV tapes. Thanks in advance.

  2. Is the ADS unit the external USB box? I had the old one for USB 1.1 and had terrible A/V sync issues. I never tried the newer one for USB2, however, I have read mixed comments on it. Some say they have A/V sync issues, some say they don't

  3. I just got out of the MPEG external encoder hell - don't buy any of these devices. They usually require proprietary NLE's to interface, leaving you stuck as the non-proprietary version gets all the updates. My suggestion is to get the device I just used to replace my old encoders, an ADS Pyro A/V Link. This device accepts s-video, composite, and component, and converts it to a DV stream, which is accepted by any NLE on the market. The ADS has hardware A/V locking, so no A/V synch problems. Vast improvement and simplification of encoding, from my experience. Price is anywhere from $110 on clearance at Circuit City, to a sure bet of $155 from buy.com. Great device, wish I'd done this long ago.

Thanks for your replies. I will search for other hardware encoding products or may be ADVC100 for software encoding.
