  1. I used Vdub to convert a avi file to wave so I could use TMGnc for converting to svcd.

After I tried to extract the audio from the movie using vdub, it saved to a wave file almost 2 gigs, the movie as a avi file is only 700 mb.

What do I need to do so TMG will read audio file and keep it a normal size for converting?

You could try frameserving, no intermediate file required. Like here.

Thats quite normal as you have converted to an uncompressed format. TmpGenc will accept it quite happily.

  4. Thats the problem, TMG wont exept it.. It wont even reconize it.

  5. I assume you extracted it using Full processing mode. If so, try again. Make sure compression is set to PCM (none). I have done this many times and never had a problem (except with Ac3, which vdub won't handle).

If this doesn't work, try opening the avi in GoldWave and doing 'save as' from the file menu.

When you open the AVI in TMPGEnc to convert to SVCD you load your extracted WAV file as the AUDIO and the AVI as the VIDEO.

It will encode to SVCD format (I suggest you use the WIZARD MODE and the SVCD template) and the audio will be MP2 audio which is MUCH smaller than WAV audio.

The size of the mpeg output from Tmpgenc has absolutley no relationship to the size of the input files. The only thing that affects the size of an mpeg file (from any encoder) is bitrate and playing time, nothing else. So don't worry about a 700Mb avi and 2Gig wav file, it doesnt matter.
