u cant go wrong with TDK and they are about a buck a disc if ur in the states. Most excellent! Fuji and imation is good too. I would stay away from memorex and I dont care who manufactures them, if it says memorex then stay away. just MHO

I'm sure this is not the norm as I have read only good reviews about TDK and Verbatim but the only two faulty disks I've ever had have been one each from those two manufacturers. In both cases you could actually see inconsistant coloring on the disk's record surface.

At the same time many people here have reported problems with Memorex - I've never had a bad disk. Also with never a problem have been HP, Fuji and Maxell.

  7. Its all swings and roundabouts everyone on here moans about princos but I think they are the best ever, dirt cheap and never an error. The only way you will really know is to buy some discsand experiment on your own setup. Lots of suppliers ship a variety set with five or six different brands so that you can see what is best. This may be a good way for you to start.

Well, I disparage memorex for the following reason. I have use all kinds of brands. tdk, verbatum, fuji, memorex, imation, compusa cheapos, hp, sony, maxel and have used these more than once or twice. The only suckers Ive had problems with were the memorex. Yea, alot of them burned fine, but all the others they ALL burned fine. So why on earth would I bother to go back to memorex when there are so many other choices out there. If there were only 2 or 3 choices and memorex was one of them and they were on sale then yea, maybe in a bind I would buy a 10 pack to hold me over. But not now a days, too easy to pick up other brands that dont give any problems at all.

i have been using bulkpaq 4x media with no problems, also i have been using mirror 4x discs also with no problems. tdk and verbatim are overpriced when the cheaper bulkpaqs do exactly the same job for alot less money.

Interesting. I haven't tried many brands, but the only ones that wouldn't work well for me WERE TDK's. Dvdinfopro showed them to be RicohJPNR01 disks--- which have been shown to be very inconsistent in the testing I've seen.
Hard to go by brand names anyway, since you can't tell who their suppliers are.

I agree Kerry, but Im not sure about supplying the same disc to different labels. Maybe TDK may state ceratin quality control prodedures be followed to label under their name, whereas sneaky pete dvd discs may just want the cheapest available. Certain dye may be requested by fuji and oliver bacagnasty dvd may not give a rats ass what dye is used.

  13. I've used Memorex, TDK, Ritek, and Verbatim and they all display the same Ricoh ID. I've never had problems with any of them, so I would just buy whichever is cheapest...

  14. it depends on what writer you have, basically. Main page, left column, dvd writers click on that search, shows you what media to use.

  15. My cumulative experience with Memorex DVD media, since 1 September 2003...

DVD+RW: 75 discs (the yellow jewel insert variety) from Wal-Mart were used for video editing and testing. Five of those discs were formatted and rewritten 100 times without failure. One disc of the 70 remaining discs was defective out of the jewel case.

DVD+R: 150 discs (the purple jewel insert variety) from Wal-Mart were used for final video output. Two discs were defective.

I've had the most luck with Fuji and the Imation's that are currently
on sale at Office Max for $1.00 a disc.

Two I've had problems with are Philips and CompUSA's own brand.
The Philips would play in my Sony NS400D but not my Liteon LVD 2001.
I tried a two pack of the CompUSA. One worked and the other was
    a coaster.

Used to be a big Verbatim 4x -R fan, but have moved to TDK 4x +R. Can't put my finger on why, but TDK just seem to burn smoother.

Can anyone point me to a website that ships internationally that has TDK DVD-R for around $1 a piece. They're $5 AU here so I figure even with shipping I should be able to get them cheaper than that from the US.
