  1. Hi there
has anyone made a succesful movie only backup of the Pirates of the caribbean. I have tried with instant copy 8 and DVD shrink beta 5, but all i seem to get is a disc that skips through the chapters all the way through the film. I notice that when i try to reauthor in DVD shrink after i have dragged the main movie over to the new window there is a long list of titles underneath. No matter what i do i cannot get rid of any of these and shrink keeps telling me that the files are to large to put on a disc. Never had this problem before has anyone else

    rma.....try this:

    Download DVD Decrypter (free).

Rip the DVD with decrypter in FILE mode. Then, process/compress these files with DVD Shrink. Make sure you have it set to only process/compress the movie, minus the extras, languages, and subtitles u don't need.

If the movie files on the source DVD are less than 4.38gb in size, use DVD Decrypter in ISO mode. It'll rip it and burn it for u.

Either of these techniques should result in a backup that works perfectly.

Weird. I just made a back up myself. I got a weird error twice stating that it wasn't the right region as the drive (The last disc I backuped was the R2 Ed Wood - but the prog was closed).

I closed the prog (after checking to make sure my drive was still set to R1 - it was with the number of changes left intacted). Restarted it and it worked fine.

    My only suggestion would be

    1) to close and restart the prog
    2) I went in a removed all audio besides the DD5.1
    3) I reduced all the Disney ads at the start to 90% compression and removed all sound.

Perhaps this might work for you.

  5. Hi all.

This DVD probably uses multi-angles, or gives you the option to access extras from corresponding scenes in the movie (a la "Matrix / White rabbit").
In DVD Shrink "View" menu, uncheck "Combine shared titles", it should make it easier to select the movie-only title.

DVDShrink doesn't like multi-angle in re-author mode. Pre-ripping Main Movie with DVDDecryptor is probably the quickest fix.

Actaully, I'm working on Pirates right now, and ddlooping's answer of unchecking "combine shared titles" gets rid of like the 50 titles there are when you first analyze the disc. Unfortunately, I can only get the compression ratio to 23% at it's lowest.
Has anybody else found a way to get a lower compression ratio?

P.S. Anybody know of the way to get X-men 2's compression lower then like 25%?

I used DVDfab (newest) to rip the main movie, english 2-ch, 6-ch, DTS6-ch, and subs.

    Used 2 DVD-R's to keep 100% Quality.

Burned using Nero v6.23 No errors.

    ---
I tried using DVDShrink and DVD decrypter but both yielded errors at or around 40% rip.

  9. Anydvd/Clonedvd will backup the entire disk just fine. @47%. No noise or artifacting.
I tried the Decrypter/file method, and Shrink came back with the same errors. The main title seems to expand with shrink. Weird.

  11. I just backed up this movie successfully. I used TDK -r, dvd decrypter, dvd2one (movie only) and copytodvd to burn. No Problem.

  12. ddlooping, thanks for pointing out the "Combine shared titles" feature. I wish I knew about it before I backed up my copies Pirates of the Caribbean and the Alien Quadrilogy. I did a movie only backup of each and just deleted all the extra chapters that appeared after the main movie in Shrink.

  15. I actually copied this last night successfully, and it's playing right now behind me. I copied the entire disc...menus, extras and all. I've been using AnyDVD to decode the dics, and CloneDVD to copy it. The CLone program listed the copy percentage at only about 47%, but the copy is pretty damn near perfect...audio and all.

I just copied Pirates with DVDShrink 3 Beta 5

Reauthored, dragged main movie to new window, selected and deleted ALL the extra movie clips that show up below the main movie file, undid all subs except ENGLISH and left only the 5:1 dolby ( AC3 ) and let Shrink automatically adjust the compression. Don't remember what it turned out to be. Used DEEP ANALISYS before transcoding and it turned out perfect!!! No errors, No skips, no nothing!! Played perfectly on all my DVD plyers
    ( 5 different makes )
Used TDK 4X disk and burned with latest NERO 5 update.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

  17. USING SHRINK 3.5 BETA

Re Author titles 1-32 or whatever number it was, drag and drop into the new section and heres the wierd bit re author again this time only dragging title 1 !!!
so it's double re author then!
my DVD collection gets jam sandwiched by my two year old on a regular basis! so collection back-up is a must!

  18. Use DVDXCOPY XPRESS and NERO. Works great for me every time. I even use .89 cent no name DVD+R as well!

I do the same technique with most movies, although I often will cut the credits and some of the early logos to increase the compression % a few points higher (meaning less compression in Shrink 3.0b5.) This allows me to get lossless backups of most movies.

  20. I have also used the the method stated by jtoolman2000 with DVDShrink.
Title1 is all you need and after getting rid of all sound tracks except for AC3 6, you get an auto compression ratio of 76%. I select the deep analysis option for anthing less than 85% to get a better compression.

Shrink is all you need for reauthoring. I use the reauthor mode for everything these days to get rid of all the garbage. I set my DVDs up to play the way I want them when it put them in the player. If there are lengthy studio adverts upfront, I use the Start/End option to cut them out.

I find the AC3 6 will play fine on a regular TV so a 2 channel soundtrack is never needed, for compatibility when watching with a simple sytem. For concerts, I may test a DTS track (using a good 5 speaker system) to see if it is worth the extra space. Most AC3 6 tracks are good enough so I rarely waste valuable disk space for a DTS track.

I burn with latest Nero 5 using the DVD-Video option. No coasters.
