I have two computers both using Pioneers 106 writers and Pioneer DVD roms. When I use the DVD rom to write to the hard disk the speed has dropped down to 1800 k/b a sec on both machines and I don't now why. I am using windows xp pro and nero 6 had no problems up till now, I have not installed any new programs. If I use the 106 to write to the hard disk the speed goes way up and it only takes about 15 mins to copy to the hard drive but as soon as I try the dvd rom it takes about 35-45 mins.
has anyone else had this problem, if so how do I fix it.

Look in your Device Manager and make sure that your drive has Ultra DMA enabled.

  3. Also to add, what is the read speed of your DVD Rom?

It could be that your Rom is slower at reading than the writer.

    Thanks

  5. Did you look under IDE ATA/ATAPI contollers?

You won't find the settings under the 'Disk Drives' menu

    Thanks

  6. find the IDE channels under IDE controllers. right click them and choose properties. click on the advanced tab. see what mode its currently running in. the HD should run in Ultra DMA 5 I believe and your DVD drives should run in Ultra DMA 2. If a DVD drive is running in PIO you'll get crappy speeds. to fix it if its running PIO just delete that IDE Channel. you'll be prompted to reboot and XP will redetect the channel and devices and be forced to try DMA again.
