  1. I'm trying to put together an economical capture system. There are currently two 80GB 7200rpm 8MB buffer hard drives for $50 each:
    Seagte ST380013A-RK at CompUSA
    and
Maxtor L01P080 (retail kit for 6Y080P0 if I'm not mistaken) at Best Buy

Does anyone has any idea which should be better?

    Thanks

  2. Well, I use Seagate S-ATA drives now, and i have the 60GB IDE version of the one your thinking about and I haven't had any problems with any of the drives.

I don't know about the Maxtor ones so you'll have to get someone elses input on that because I haven't used them for a long time and the last one I had was quite noisy, so they should have hopefully improved by now.

  3. Which do you prefer quietness or reliability? how long gtee??
What else included?? any thing to sway you one way or the other?

  4. I'm not really concerned about quietness. I think it is overrated. As far as reliabaility, I'm willing to take my chances. The must important thing here is performance followed by reliability.
I'm particularly concerned with performance during capture.

    Thanks for answers so far.

I have not had good sucsess with Maxtor. I've got three Maxtor drives that are bad between 3-5 years old. My Western Digital drives have lasted longer.
