  1. i rip video tracks to a m2v file ,but when they are done a 5 minute video is about 300 meg and the video bitrate is 8000.....how low can i go on the bitrate so i dont lose quality???

    you will start losing quality if you go to 7999.

    but seriously, how can low can you go before it visibly deteriorates, depends on your resolution and other things.

    perhaps 4000, at a stab.

    I'm assuming you're reencoding??

    I personally find, that original quality determines how low you can go. If your output is for interlaced, then that too is much more forgiving than your monitor.

    On a final note, if it's possible via AVISynth script, resize your video to 352x480, and then you can take advantage of even lower bitrates.
