  1. Where can I get a cheap DVD writer like Liteons dual format one?
I seen Liteons but my mom doesn't want to get it cause it is 130,and she doesn't like mail in rebates.

  2. the liteon isn't all that great anyway. they have some work to do on their DVD burners. you can get the NEC 1300 for around $110 if you look in the correct places. there is a link to it on the main page of this site, upper right corner. there are links and prices on the three most commonly sought burners.

  3. Alot of the work was cleared up in the last firmware a couple of weeks ago. review link below. The 411s at $80 if you can get it is a great buy even with rebates

  7. In my opinion, you only buy a drive once, so buy a really good one. Get a pioneer dvr-106 online for about 135 with shipping and handling. Ever since I purchased the pioneer, I have been using cheap 57 cent blank disc without even one coaster. It works great for video and everything else so far. No problem at all. I remember when I had my old optorite dd203, that piece of crap gave me coaster 1 out of every 3 burn (on expensive media). Save yourself the trouble, and look at all of the money that I saved. For every 100 spindle, that I buy, I am spending 57 dollars instead of 100. Buying a good drive will pay for itself!

Oh yeah, don't wait for the 8.5 dual layer drive. That thing is in the begining stage, I bet it will cost you a fortune for the drive and for the blank disc. I don't think it worth it, at least not yet!

I just wanted to say that I have the NEC ND-1300A and it is a great quality burner that is every bit as good as the more expensive PIONEER or SONY but at a much cheaper price.

I have a Sony and a NEC and they both work great. You can get the NEC for around $105 if you buy online.

Mine works fine but is really slow. It takes about 75 minutes to burn
a dvdr movie img at 4.7 gigs. Is this normal time? My first dvd burner so I dont know better but it seems really slow.

I don't, but I figured for $107 free shipping for a 4x dual format burner, WHY NOT. I dont really use the NEC much, I upgraded the firmware on the Sony so it also burns at 4x.

If you bought the one I think you did then you should be burning a full dvd in 15 min. if you are using 4x media. 75 min. is slower than burning at 1x, so I think you may have a problem there.

  15. This week at office max they have amicro advantage dual format drive.
for $79.99 after rebates. I bought one because it was just way to cheap. I just started doing some research on it , in another thread someone mentioned that it was a rebagged NEC.

  16. Problem is my mom doesn't like rebates.
They take over a year to arrive she says.
    Cause of a former experience.

  17. Tell your mom to look at the full retail price, and buy it!
Then send in the rebate and forget it.
In a year she will be happy to get $25 or $30 or whatever for no reason at all!

I get most my rebates back in about 6-8 weeks, but then some like the CANON I850 rebate from Canon must have been a scam! We bought 2 of those printers for 2 different households, and both rebates were rejected!
I got Screwed for $60 total. $30 each rebate.

But then who cares, I got the best printer on the market at the time, and it was $50 less than the second best printer anyway, where I bought it

Though I am still ticked off about getting ripped for the rebates!
