  2. I had the exact opposite problem with my A05, it would recognize and burn cd's, stopped recognizing and burning dvdrs. I think there are two lasers, one for each format. One can go, and the other will still work. Took mine in to Pioneer, they couldn't fix it, and they gave me a replacement.

  3. I am having similar problems with my A04... It would fail when trying to burn dvds more often than not, but sometimes it would still work. Then I put in a blank cdr and it would not recognize it. Then I tried a cdr that was already burned and still wouldnt recognize it.
I was able to burn dvd's about one out of every 5 tries.
Took it apart and cleaned it real good (mines way out of warranty) and lubed up the rails. Now it recognizes cdr's but I still cant burn dvd's and I'm tired of making coasters. I was using Imation branded G03's and printable G03's. Anyone have any ideas?
What is the typical life expectancy of the A04? I figure I have burned over 500 dvd's...

A DVD drive has a dual frequency laser unit (1 for DVD and 1 for CD). Each of you has the symptoms of 1/2 the unit failing.

Sorry guys, but all 3 units have failed. Time to get a new unit for X-Mas.
