  1. I may have been quick to judge my media too harshly. I've used Nero successfully for a long time to backup my DVDs and, all of a sudden, I began getting many post-burn verification errors. They came both as verification errors within Nero and as media scan probs on DVDInfoPro.

    Drove me nuts.

It roughly coincided with the purchase of some Optodisc Golds, so I sent those back and got Ritek G04s. Safe bet, right? Well, my percentage improved but still had problems with half.

Then it dawned on me. I decided, like a driver is drawn to look at a bad accident, to reinstall DVDXCopy Crapinum version 8billion, or so a couple weeks back. I came to my senses almost immediately and uninstalled that. Then I demo'd Sonic's new RecordNow out of boredom. Uninstalled that a few days later. Went right back to Nero.

So anyway, around this time troubles cropped up as mentioned before. This a.m. I find the Gear drivers installed under Add/Remove programs under Control Panel, and I can't remember how they got there.

Should removing them help avoid problems with Nero's burning engine?

    Thanks

  2. Quite possibly - most manufacturers suggest you don't install more than one burning application because some files (like DLL's) are "shared" - well, I say shared, what I mean is the applications use the same file name and the installer replaces one version with another and then the problems start !

If you uninstall the old drivers, you will still probably have to reinstall Nero to get the APSI layers back to what Nero expects them to be. If something else has overwritten them and you uninstall them, you will either be lacking the file(s) entirely or have "outdated" versions which will need to be replaced.
