First of all I want to say this forum/site is really great. Especially because i'm pretty new at making my own DVD movies. I've learned a lot from you guys...Thanks![]()
I've learned how to convert a DIVX/XVID/AVI to a DVD and authorize it, so I can play it on my standalone DVD player.
Now I converted a movie with a smaller biterate for example 2200Kb/s instead of 4000 or 6000 (the quality lose is so minimum, you can't even see it (or maybe my eyes are not that good as before?)) So I thought why don't make 2 movies on 1 DVD. And that's when the problems started
I'll try to explain what I did and what kind of software I used:
MOVIES INFO:
Movie 1 (runtime 97min, Size 697MB):
video info: Codec XVID, resolution 608 x 256, FPS 23.976
audio info: Codec MP3, 128Kb/s, stereo, VBR LAME, 48000 Hz
Movie 2 (runtime 116min , Size 1400MB):
video info: Codec XVID, resolution 640 x 272, FPS 23.976
audio info: Codec AC3, 448Kb/s, 5 channels, CBR, 48000 Hz
(I combined this movie with "Virtualdubmod")
EXTRACTION/CONVERTION AUDIO:
I've extracted the audio from movie 1 with "TMPgenc plus" as result MP2 file. The second movie I extracted the sound with "Virtualdubmod" as result AC3 file.
After that I've converted both audios with "besweet" to AC3 file in stereo 224Kb/s CBR and 48000 Hz ("TMPgenc DVD author" probably couldn't handle 2 different kinds of audio streams so I converted both as same result)
CONVERTION VIDEO:
Next I converted 1 by 1 the movies with "TMPgenc plus" as same result:
Video stream typr: MPEG-2
size: 720 x 480
fram rate: 23.976 (internally 29.97)
rate control mode: CBR
biterate: 2395
Video format: NTSC
Encode mode: 3:2 pulldown when playback
Both movies with permanent subs
AUTORIZATION ATTEMPTS:
I could authorize the movies with "TMPgenc DVD autor" and I could burn 1 movie on 1 DVD and it would work on my standalone DVD player. but that's not what I want, because these converted movies would fit on 1 DVD. I tried many things but with no result
I. My first attempt I tried it with "TMPgenc DVD author" Added first movie and audio file and after that the files from the second movie. I've selected no menu. "TMPgenc DVD author" did his job... But after I wanted to check the result with my "power DVD player" the movie played way to fast and there was no sound
II. Second attempt - I used this guide http://www.myguides.0catch.com/Guide.html. In sort it comes down on this:
Authorize the first movie with "IfoEdit" after authorization throw the video manager files (VIDEO_TS.*) away and rename all the VTS_01_*.* files Into VTS_02_*.*. After that authorize the second movie and throw also video manager files away and put the VTS_01_*.* file in the same directory where your VTS_02_*.* files are. Next rebuild the video manager files with “DVDfab”...burn them on DVD....of course I didn’t burn them directly....I checked it first with my Power DVD player...And yes you could guess it...the result wasn't what I expected. I could play the first movie but not my second movie
III. Last attempt, really a desperate attempt...I combined my 2 converted M2V files with "Easy video joiner" and combined my audio files after several conversions (because I don't know how to combine AC3 files, so I converted first the audio files to a mp3 format and combined them with "twin files merger" after that I converted them back to an AC3 file) and authorized it with "IfoEdit` I put the last frame from my first movie in the scene position change, so I could go straight to the next movie when I’ll play it on my DVD player...The result...don’t even ask...Okay, okay...the movie did played on my power DVD software...and of course there is a but, But only the first 10min of my first movie was played and second movie did play well....Really I was astonished that the audio wasn’t out of sync?
Now I’m really desperate, I’ve searched many times on this forum, the first and second attempt are from this site, the last attempt was a all of nothing action...Maybe I didn’t look well and I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong...please can somebody help me out
PS sorry for the bad English

You now have 2 movies that are .m2v and .ac3 files respectively. Then you authored them with TMPGEnc DVD Author and they played to fast.
My first impression is that the video files have something wrong. To check them, multiplex them together using TMPGEnc or TMPGEnc plus under the Mpeg tools. Will they play normally on your pc as a single mpg file?
If so go back to TMPGEnc DVD Author and import them as seperate tracks (very important). This should give you a seperate "button" to play each movie. Then set up your menu however you want.
I hope this helps. -
Thank for the fast reply
I did what you told me
I added both movies in multiplex....After the multiplexing I played it... It did play the first movie but not the second one
Is there a way to fix this?

Do you mean if its working correctly as 1 file, do I need to import the multiplexed file into TMPgenc DVD author as seperate files ?? (How...?)
Or do you mean if the multiplexed file play correctly import the .m2v files again into TMPgenc DVD author...like in my first attempt. -

As far as "how" go to add video and select either the MPG file or the .m2v file.
The only difference that I know of is that if you select the .m2v file you will have to also select the .ac3 file for it. The Mpg will have the audio automatically.

I'm probably not the best person to help you get a DVD compliant MPG out of a DIVX movie.
