  1. Can anyone explain this......

I am using DVd Decrypter (latest version) to demux and rip the main video and audio files to my hard disk.

When I try and open the video stream with TMPGenc my hard disk just goes crazy and won't open it and system resources become low. If I try and open the video with Media Player it only plays 10 seconds!

If I try and rip some of the smaller parts of the DVD these work fine and open in TMPGenc no problem.

Is there possibly some protection in the main movie files.

The only way I can see to do this is to rip the main movie files chapter by chapter and then merge. The merged file seems to open ok in TMPGenc.

    Any ideas please?

    Rob.

Why are u trying to process the ripped DVD files with TMPGEnc? If you ripped the full disc in FILE mode with DVD Decrypter, just run it thru DVD Shrink to produce the files you need for burning onto a dvdr. There's no need to use TMPGEnc.

BTW...Once u rip with DVD Decrypter, the css copy protection has been removed.

  3. Thanks, I'll give DVD Shrink a try then.......

There is definitely something ontoward going on though with these movie files. Just spent hours ripping them with Smart Ripper and same problem.

I state again, all other samller files rip perfectly. Individual chapters also rip fine. But when I try and RIP the whole VOB the video won't open. Hard Disc just goes crazy and systems slows right down.

Used this method loads before and never experienced this.......

    Very odd.

  4. The trouble with programs like DVD Shrink is the Transcoding Vs Re-encoding issue - transcoding is a lot more "indiscriminate" about what it throws away, and you probably will get better picture quality if you take the time to use TMPEGenc to re-encode rather than transcode it.

For small amounts of tweaking, I don't object to the transcoders, but if a film needs stamping on, beating and generally thrashing to death to make it fit on a blank, re-encoding is probably the best option if you've got the time to do it and aren't phased by remultiplexing and the like (or have a half decent authoring package).

  5. DVD Shrink is actually no good to me because I want to take two one hour movies from 2 different DVD's, compress them and then author one DVD-R.

As far I see DVD Shrink only outputs VOB's which are ready to be burnt, I need elementary video and audio files that I can then author with DVD Maestro.

I left TMPGenc trying to open the 3Gb video ripped with Smart Ripper and it eventually opens after about 10 minutes, but it is then impossible to select source range, each time you omove the sursor it takes 10 mins to find the frame!

I've also tried ripping the VOB's then using DVD2AVI to demux the audio, but the sync is out.

    God this is frustrating!

  6. Finally got it to work by ripping the VOB and using DVD2AVI to demuxx the audio.

I did try this method previously (using DVD Decrypter to RIP the VOB), and although I selected the main movie files it somehow ripped some extra features and added them to the beginning of the VOB. As a result the audio was out of sync.

This time around I used Smart Rip and it only ripped the main movie and all was fine.

  7. .....well I thought I had it solved anyway! When using the DVD2AVI method to demux the audio the video, the .d2v video file used to reference the ripped VOB causes jerky playback in the video file produced by TMPGenc!

This is turing into a mission, has anyone else had problems opening a demuxed video file in TMPGenc after ripping?

    1) Rip both 1 hour movies off their respective DVD's.

    2) Compress/process these into DVD compatible forms with shrink or dvd2one or whatever software u use. Put each movie into its own folder.

    3) Use TMPGenc DVD Author to author your new dvd. You can put both movies on the disc, and create a menu system for access to both.

TMPGenc DVD Author is not a freebie, but has a full function try before u buy period. It may be exactly what yer lookin for.

  9. Hi all.

robburne, you can "compile" both movies onto one DVD-R very easily with DVD Shrink.
