Take a look at the Norcent DP302V. There are numerous comments on this forum. It's $40 - $60 and plays everything. :)

  3. Chriskay - where do you live?

I could recommend a few for the UK - e.g. Pacific 1002 at Asda; less than £50.

    I second the Norcent suggestion. I have a DP-300 and it play DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-MP3, JPEG, MPEG (unauthored).

  6. Safeway's were doing a cheap DVD - Compacks 4000 for £35.00 ealier this year and it does play everything. You may be able to track one down where you live.

At the moment there is a DVD player sold in Sommerfield stores which is about £40.00 that I understand plays everything, but I don't know the make.

Also, if there are any PC fairs near you, you may be able to pick up a DVD player for about £40 to £50. I bought a DVD player for a friend (Ronin DVD215) and the reports that I have back from him have been very good.

The best way to judge if a DVD plays all in my experience, is that is has not only the CD Audio logo, but also the CD Digital Video logo too.

    Good luck.

  8. I had a Norcent DP312 and it was junk, would not play hardly anything, but the DP300 I have is great!
Norcent DP300 I have plays everything! I saw a post recently some places had DP300 again, Mine is about a year old now and still no problems. I would recomend buying from a place with a return policy in case the newer dp300 is not as good as the older ones. I know I was very disapointed in that DP312 and returned it! I have no idea what the difference is between the 2 models.

  9. I've been advised about a roadstar, (not sure on the model) at tesco for under 60 quid, there is a roadstar for sale at index but isn't the same one apparently, is this any use?

The problem i have is that my dvd writer was an oem version (no software) and so i've got dvd movie factory two and after about 20 attempts, have created two successful dvds, that played flawlessly without any skipping or jumping wotsoever and so i need to be able to create something with this program that will play.

    Chriskay.

Have you checked Richer Sounds? I've used them for years for av gear. One of the best things is their 14 day return policy if you're not happy with your purchase. Cheapest multi region on their site is an image 2290 @ £34.00. Whilst I can't comment on this model, all of the dvd's I've bought off Richers over the years have played almost everything I've thrown at them - vcd, svcd, dvd- r/w etc.

  11. I saw the cyberhome 300 at Radio Shack for $30 with Rebate. According to the "DVD Players" forum it plays most everything. You might be able to find it online??

Might I suggest if your wanting a play anything player because you are making crappy disks, perhaps instead you should try to make better disks

First realize getting a player that plays a crappy disk will do you NO good at all when you want to watch the disk at a freinds house or give one as a gift to a relitive etc.. figuring you might be making original content disks you can share.

Perhaps it's a problem with your media, your files, or the program your using. So try fixing the problem

Several good free trial programs available for authoring like Tmpgenc DVD author or DVD-lab. Both fully working for 30 days free, so use one for 30 then the other for 30 and you got 60 days

Make sure your files are DVD compliant! You CAN make mpeg2 files that are not within the DVD specs, if you author those they may not work!

In any case, you say you made 20 disks and 2 work. That sugests that if 2 work in your player, then your player should play the disks. 18 that don't work sugests you have a problem other than the player possibly??

What media are you using? Cheap no name brands, or good stuff like ritek?

  13. Also if you have a good eletronics store in your area, maybe you could take a couple non-working disks and try the players before buying one.

If you buy software to make playable disks it's pretty much a one time expense though and then nearly everyone can use your disks.

Buy a player and it goes bad later, you might not be able to get another of the same type, then what of your disks? Possability.

I suggest you try Tmpgenc DVD author first, and also use the programs built in burner! I never had a disk fail I made with that program so far!
Though I have some Nero burned disks that don't work in some players!

Also if you trashed 18 disks, perhaps you should consider buying some RW disks for testing

I've added a brief 'first impression' view of this player over at Craig's post.
