I was wondering how to make my own monster cables. I am currently using coax from my vcr to my wintv go capture card. I noticed even from commercial vhs tapes that there is a tiny bit of interferance in the video. I know most people capture with composite that have the same card I do and I want to try to see if the quality makes a difference. I'm gonna need I would say more or less 12 feet and a rca to smaller stereo jack adapter to plug the sound into my soundcard. I want to get some good quality cables cause I heard they help the quality alot and improve on noise in the lines. I will need good cables because I may get a satellite in the next few months and I need the best quality available without an expensive price. My goal is to capture Directly to mpeg2 with no re-encoding and burn straight to dvd from satellite. I figure if I have a pure sourceand good cables so I don't introduce any interference then this can be done. Does anyone know in canada where I can get this adapter and cords for less than 30 bucks? or should I make my own which I think is way cheaper? Does someone have a guide on how I could make my own high quality cables? I know using those el cheapo rca cables doesn't give that good of a quality based on a lot of people's reviews. anyway thanks

If you have a Radio Shack available, you might save yourself some time and energy with this cable, 12', 3 RCA's and the following adapter RCA to 1/8" stereo plug. RS #15-1508 ($17US) and RS# 274-883 adapter ($6US). These are more than sufficient quality for most purposes. You can also make your own 'monster' cables, but without some soldering practice, it will take a while.

EDIT: Sorry RS is apparently not available in Canada.

  5. I have been in the electronics industry all my life and I would never waste my time making cables.

There are several online sites to buy better quality cables than "Monster" at half there price. I recently bought two twenty foot component video cables from http://www.ramelectronics.net that are 3/4 inch diameter for a mere $44 each.

Ive been in the electronics repair industry for 22 years and i would rather make my own cables, lots of these monster cables are poorly soldered together and break quickly if moved too much.

What the hell would you use a 3/4inch cable for? Bragging rights? You could put an entrance into a small house with wire like that.
    Speakers? Talk about overkill!!!

Most of that thickness(proly closer to 1/2") is the casing, you can only have so thick of wire to be soldered onto rca and mini plugs.

Industrial grade. Anyway the price was right and no store in my city had cables twenty feet long.
