  1. I went to OfficeMax today to get some +RW's and was pleasantly surprised to see that all Fuji media was 25% off (no pesky mail-in rebates, I might add). I can't say for sure if this is the case in all OfficeMax locations, but you may want to check it out....

You see any prices? 25% off what? At Best Buy, the Fuji DVD-R (RITEKG03) are $1 each in 25-packs. I picked one up today, needed quick media.

  3. I paid $11.99 for a 5-pack of +RW's, $4 off. You could probably check out OfficeMax.com for a better idea....

  5. Fuji 4x DVD-R (Made in Japan) 10 disk box now costs $14.99 with this 25% off deal. These are the very highly rated TY disks and at $1.50 a piece they are worth every penny. I can burn them at 8x on my Pioneer DVR-107 with hacked 1.13 firmware.

  6. Would the same hold true for the +R's?

  7. the 50 pack dvd-r and dvd+r were $64.99 - 25% at my local store. for dvd-r, taht's not a good deal at all, for dvd+r, if these burn at 8x, that's pretty good, but then again, the amazon.com memorex printables are also 8x and RICOH discs (see my thread on this) -- and those are less than $1 per disc.

  8. where does anyone see 25% off those disks at BB? I was just in BB returning some disks and wanted to exchange them for the DVD-R Fuji's because I read in this thread they were $14.99. The girl at the register rang them up and they were $24.99, not $14.99. Must of been a one day mistake by BB if they didn't advertise it.

  9. The 25% off sale is at OfficeMax, not Best Buy. You've misread the thread.

  10. thx ckdexterhn1, I have been going nutz will my string of bad luck with media. First the Best Buy Memorex which were "RICOH" a couple of months ago, are "now" CMC and complete crap! I return those for two 25 packs of the Fuji -R "Ritek G03" disks and those are also complete garbage. I've read that on those GO3's before but I saw it first hand. As soon as I opened both spindles I could clearly see the dye was like scratched and smudged. It's hard to explain but every single disk I went through in both spindles had the same appearance. I was pretty mad to say the least. So I figured i'd test one with a project at 4.35 GB's that DVd Shrink output, and sure enough it "burned" perfectly, but that means nothing. I then ran Kprobe on it and the spikes at the end of the disk were ridiculous. So I tried to transfer the data to my hard drive and sure enough at about 90% or so the disk was unreadable!

I wonder how many people get taken with crappy media like this. The disks burn and you may be able to skim through them and have them "appear" fine, but that just isn't the case. I'm gonna check out the Office Max Fuji's. I'll try and get in on at least 30 of them.

5 packs of 4X DVD+RW media are $11.99, regularly $15.99... pretty good price.

(The manager even specifically denied this sale was going on but everything rang up at 25%- I went back and there was a tiiiiiiny little sign over on a table about 25% off ALL Fuji media... it's like they don't want anyone knowing!)

[edited: sorry, totally missed the fact someone reported this price earlier in the thread!!]

When I went to the omax site and put in fuji dvd media a note came up saying all fuji dvd media is 25% off for a limited time. What is great about this deal is that Office Max regular price for these 10 Pack TY fuji DVD-R's is 19 $19.99, while Best Buy's price is $24.99. At those prices it would be almost like a 50% Fuji media if best buy were offering the same disks at $1.50 each. Great deal for sure especially considering everyone praises these disks as among the absolute elite.

  16. defcon, you are right. I purchased 2 packages or (20) of the Taiyo Yuden fujis. They have all been excellent so far. I also purchased a 25 pack of the Fuji DVD+R's. Amazing how clean the dye looks on both of those disks. The +R's are RicohJpn disks. Both of them look super on the dye side.

Hard to believe how crappy the -R Fuji Ritek G03's looked. HUGE difference in quality and those were a dollar a piece, which is the same price I paid for these "4x" +R super looking ricoh Fuji's. I'm gonna go back and get some more of these +R FUJI disks. At that price, with this quality, you simply can't go wrong.

I don't know, the RITEKG03 burn perfectly in my BTC1004 drives at 2x speed. It's only the mail-order G03 that give me troubles. I think disturbed1 talks about these being super-grade versions for name OEM.

Anyway, THANK YOU JOHNNYCNOTE, I went a grabbed 3 packs, and then used my $10 off $40 coupon too that came in the mail. Not a bad deal. This is another 1ST CLASS media here. I made them go in the back and grab some 4x discs for me, all they had were the older packs, which I think are 1x discs (does not mention 4x on package).

It's funny actually. I saw one 4x pack on the shelf, and then all those 1x packs. I went to the front, told the guy there were no more 4x packs on the shelf (and showed him the "4x" logo), asked him to check in the back. So what does he do? He walks over to the aisle I just left, grabs the 1x pack, walks up to me and says "is this it"? My ONLY response to this is "you're kidding right?". Mullet-headed fruitloop. Luckily his co-worker graduated junior high school, saw my disgust, and got what I needed.

    DAMN that is too funny

I have't been able to get to an Office Max yet ... hopefully tomorrow ... and hopefully they still have some of the FUJI 4x DVD-R discs (the 10-pack MADE IN JAPAN discs of course).

Although I did just order (first time) a 50 pack of Prodisc 4x DVD-R discs from Supermediastore.com though I expect that won't arrive 'til next week (anyone know where they are located?)

I'm a few states away, always get my orders within 3-4 days. You're on the opposite side of the continent, probably going ground rate, so expect 6-8 days to get to you.

Yeah I think they said my order was shipped out on Tuesday and in my experience UPS ground from CA to PA takes about 5 days not counting SAT/SUN so I should get this next week on Tuesday or Wed at the latest.

  23. I've had good luck with the Fuji RitekG03. I burn them at 4X with updated firmware on my A07. Only burned 22 so far, but no coasters. Will have to get up the courage to try higher speed sometime

I would appreciat if everyone who buys these OM disks reads them and reports what they actually are.

I have been to all the stores, OMax, Comp, ODepot, BB, and there is not ONE package that is marked "Made in Japan". ALL Taiwan. Except, of course, Imation, which does not, anywhere on the 50 pack box, give origin.

So, where are you guys coming from?

    Cheers,

    George

FUJI 25-count spindle MADE IN TAIWAN are really good RITEKG03
FUJI 10-pack "up to 4x" boxes MADE IN JAPAN are TYG01 (Taiyo Yuden 4x)

My RITEKG03 came from Best Buy, the TY came from OfficeMax.
I think you already know where I am.

The IMATION boxes are RITEKG03 as long as I've seen, at least around here.

    Smurf,

I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE!!! BEWARE!!!

No, the thing is, we are preached to to buy Japan made media, and there is not a package on our shelves that says "Made in Japan". Absolutely none.

And I go to all the stores every Sunday, when the shoppers come out. Well, I don't get a paper on Sunday, do not work Sunday, so spend a few hours looking to see if there is anything good at sale price. BTW, as per the other, when I go in on Tuesday, I read the Sunday paper, so do not miss much. Hey, it's news to me.

Never do I see Made in Japan on ANY media.

Ah, well, just have to keep burning this trash that plays on everythig I throw it at. Hope it still works next year when the new media comes out, the new format, the new burner, whatever.

    Cheers,

    George

I've seen plenty of imations that are CMC. Frankly, I'd stay away from any store brand that says Made in Taiwan since you never know what you are getting. Especially since online media is so cheap now and you know exactly what you are getting.

    LanEvo,

How do YOU know just what you are getting? This has come up before. You buy a spindle that is added as such and such, you get them, burn one or two, get crap, read them, say, CMC?, Jesus, these are supposed to be XXXXX, send them back.

Who, as a vendor, posts the reading of the media?

And, who, as a vendor, will rip open every shrink wrapped spindle to tell you exactly what you are getting?

None!!! Youy pays your mopney and you takes your chances, to paraphrase.

    Good luck.

    George

    Edit;

    Smurf,

I see your point. You just have to hope that what you have settled for will be compatiible. Else, you will lose business.. A no-no, in any case.

But to say, X is good, Y is bad, Taiwan junk, where there IS no X to be bought, what the hell do you do? You make do.

As you say, you ran out of disks, the job must be done by the AM, you say come back next week when my next shipment comes in.
No, you probably go to the store and search like hell to find the ones that have proven to be most compatible with the most DVD players.
They ain't therte, goddammit. Everything says Taiwan .
