  1. Hey everyone.
I bought a pioneer 106/a06 retail and have burnt about 10 copies+ so far with no problem. The only problem was that it was burning at 1.2X with my 4X memorex media. No coasters too.
I thought I would take some pointers from this site and install the 1.07 Firmware and see if that would help. Nope stil burnt at 1.2X-but perfect quality.
Next I took some other advice from her that said go to 'My Computer" Properties..Click on 'Hardware', and then click on 'Device Manager'. Then go to 'IDE ATA/ATAPI' and set up for ULTRA DMA mode.
The problem is--I don't know what channel it is---Primary/Secondary,etc...
I thought it was Primary-but I can't set that to ULTRA DMA mode-only to 'Dma if avail.'

I switched secondary to 'ULTRA DMA'
AND NOW I CAN'T BURN AT ALL?!?!?!?

    WHAT"S HAPPENING?!?!?!?

  2. BUMP!

I have updated the firmware to 107.
I tried to set the IDE sattings to Ultra DMA mode.

Now it is worse than before. I can't burn at all, let alone at the 1.2X/

    ANY HELP----PLEASE!!!!

1.2x burn smells like PIO mode. Follow the standard delete/reboot procedure to get the DMA mode to change (W2K/XP).

If after flashing yoru firware it's 'dead', well....it's pretty obvious it wasn't flashed right? Are you sure you flashed it right? Right version? Can you flash back to prior version?

  4. yup sounds like PIO mode, for more info on flashing and reversing check
    out
    forum.firmware-flash.com
look in the dvdr/rw forum most flashing problems have stickies and there are plenty of firmware monkeys working away there 24-7 to help

  5. Lol can you guys not read, or something? (S)he's saying that after upgrading, the drive STILL WORKED. It only stopped working after switching it to DMA mode....sheesh

  6. Like Gazorgan stated, the drive can still be lock in PIO mode, the person needs to remove/ delete the ide from the device manager, reboot then re-select the DMA mode if available, also check out the BIOs on boot up, make sure the drive is in auto detect. SHEESH. might be wise to re-read for you make some punk ass comment that offers nothing.

  7. I think YOU are the one who should re-read...ksbradley said nothing about his drive being 'dead' after the firmware upgrade (as gazorgan stated). In fact, he said that the firmware upgrade was succesful. So therefore, YOUR post

  8. plz provide us with the some of the specs of your computer ..how much ram you have , hard drive space, burning software used to burn.... problems with transfer settings/rates can be caused by not setting your jumpers correctly on your ide drives. dvd burner should be set as master and other drive should be slave .. or both must be set to cs. not both set to slave/master or one set to master and the other to cs.

You may have to go into the computers bios, and enable support for DMA.My latest ststem had to be set to "auto" in the bios secondary channel.Until it is enabled,it will keep referting back to PIO mode.

  10. improper flashing can cause the burner to act up, pioneer is notorious for its firmware upgrade/downgrade issues, the firmware forum has individuals who specialize in this matter, i just took a few minutes to follow the as quoted useless link and found slow burning issues. Anything related to drive issues can be found in their dvd-r/ram/+rw forum rather then this specialized dvdr vcd forum.

"the drive can still be lock in PIO mode, the person needs to remove/ delete the ide from the device manager, reboot then re-select the DMA mode if available, also check out the BIOs on boot up, make sure the drive is in auto detect."

THANKS TO THE OTHERS WHO ACTUALLY ARE HERE TO HELP AND NOT TALK SMACK AND ACTUALLY REITERATE SOME USUFUL KEY POINTS. YOU ALL MAKE THIS SITE WORTH WHILE UNLIKE SOME OF THESE USELESS POSTERS.
too many P.A.B. float these forums trying to stirr things up

  11. Are you serious? Can you not read? Or maybe you're just thick in the head?

    Again, from the same person:

In case you didnt notice...the drive still worked AFTER the firmware upgrade. He could still burn "perfect copies." Only after switching it to Ultra DMA mode did the problems start. And now he's saying he cant switch back to PIO mode, either.

  12. I will spell this out very clearly, read this very slowly..........

The problem is--I don't know what channel it is---Primary/Secondary,etc...
I thought it was Primary-but I can't set that to ULTRA DMA mode-only to 'Dma if avail.'
I switched secondary to 'ULTRA DMA'
AND NOW I CAN'T BURN AT ALL?!?!?

DO NOT SELECT ULTRA DMA MODE, when you are setting the channel in the device manager you need to select the option DMA IF AVAILABLE. not the specific option of Ultra DMA mode. Switch the secondary to DMA if available and then reboot. When you select Ultra dma mode conflicts can occur. NOG IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THESE SETTINGS IN THE DEVICE MANAGER, SILLY ****** DICKS ARE FOR CHICKS.
If your channel will not allow it to take the setting you should remove the channel, reboot, and allow windows to detect the channel. then go into the device manager and change the setting to DMA if available
The retard taking shit is confused by the settings called ULTRA DMA MODE and DMA MODE IF AVAILABLE.
If you properly set the DMA channel the device will function properly and be assigned a number other wise it will display the characteristics the drive is having. MR OPINION here needs to go back to skewl and learned to read, comprehended and use a komputor.

you need to stick with offering your opinion about memorex media

  13. Well, he DID say:
I thought it was Primary-but I can't set that to ULTRA DMA mode-only to 'Dma if avail.'
So he already knows about DMA if available.

And I think you need to calm down.

NOG IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THESE SETTINGS IN THE DEVICE MANAGER, SILLY ****** DICKS ARE FOR CHICKS.
#1: Yes I am very familiar with these settings, more so than you
#2: Are you in 7th grade? I bet you are!

MR OPINION here needs to go back to skewl and learned to read, comprehended and use a komputor.
I think you need to learn to spell :P

you need to stick with offering your opinion about memorex media
AHA! So that was you, too, calling me a newb for saying memorex is bad? I sense hostility...and I thought it was only on THIS post...apparently you're just an angry person...do your parents beat you?
