  1. i use tmpgenc to convert my movies, but i want it to display using the 16:9 ratio when i play it on my dvd player.

yes, i selected the aspect ratio as "16:9 525 line (NTSC)", but it still doesn't work. i believe i also tried the other "16:9 display" option, but to no avail. or am i supposed to select "16:9 525 line (NTSC, 704x480)"?

i'm not sure if all dvd players and tvs support 16:9 mode, but i recall playing my dvd player and tv playing a movie in 16:9 mode, so the equipment is not the problem.

  2. You need to encode the MPEG2 file with/from a 16:9 DAR source, then author the DVD and flag the video as 16:9. So it's a two step process: 1) Encoding and 2) authoring.

It's sounds like you've got the encoding part down (assumation on my part actually) but how did you author the DVD?

Edit: if you authoring program doesn't support adding/selecting a 16:9 flag, you can author as normal then load the IFO file in IFOEdit, change it, save, then burn.
