Finally! Get a DVD player that replaces your VCR at a reasonable price. It’s never been easier to record, play and store multi-media content on DVD – no need to buy separate components. The Gateway™ AR-230 DVD Recorder has it all in one package.
Recording TV shows is just one click away with the easy-to-use AR-230. Featuring high-quality recording of up to 6 hours (on a 4.7GB disc), it’s much easier to record the shows you want to watch without spending a lot of time figuring out how to set it up properly. And once you’ve watched your shows, you can erase the DVD and use it to record again.

With your DVD Recorder, you can save all of your family memories on a DVD that can last up to 100 years. The IEEE 1394 Input allows you to burn DVD videos directly from your camcorder, while the RCA Input allows you to make perfect copies of your home videos from your VCR onto non-degradable, digital quality DVDs.

And when you want to sit back and enjoy the show, progressive scan DVD playback and multi-channel Dolby Digital (AC-3) make your movies come to life. You can also play audio CDs, MP3s and JPEGs.

The on-screen display (OSD) lets you adjust settings and select options for your DVD recorder. For example, you can specify your TV type, set parental controls, and specify you audio type.

Component video outputs deliver optimal color to compatible televisions with component video inputs, which provide the best digital recording quality from compatible TVs. Plus, you’ll get the extra benefit of improved TV picture with noise filtering.

Simple, easy, yet feature-rich solutions make your set-up a hassle-free process.

    Includes:
    • DVD recorder

  7. Well, newegg.com has the Liteon for $289. IF the Gateway is the same machine it makes sense to get the Liteon......

  9. Saw the Gateway at a local Gateway store. Build quality looked ok.

Of course the salespeople had no clue. I asked who actually builds the product. The first guy said "Philips", then the manager said "Panasonic". I asked to see the owner's manual and they said they put all the docs in the garbage when they set up the display unit.

Couldn't test it out because the display unit wasn't plugged into a TV.

For $349, I think the slightly more expensive Philips DVDR75 is a better deal. However if you can get the Lite-On model below $300, then this is a unit I might consider buying. I would definitely go back to the store and record a few things to check out PQ before buying.

  10. Panasonic E30 is what I have. Dunno why they changed things so much after it with their other units with HD or E50. E30 has more input/outputs & more buttons on the front then their next units. E30 for example, a enter button on front so you aren't so dependent on the remote.

  11. RCA also came out with a dvd+rw recorder which is under $400 at samsclub. I want to know what the quality is like on all of these cheaper recorders at the highest setting. The only thing keeping the panasonics from taking over the market completely is that dvd-ram bullsht. That and the lack of a built tivo like programming guide.

Don't need it, they use Guide Plus, which is free, you can even get a tv with it, free to use too....

With dvd-ram you can record a program & in ten minutes play it (keep recording) & when you get to a commercial you can skip through it in 4 seconds with time slip, thus, you can watch a nearly commercial free program. nyah
