  1. Hi,

I'm having a problem which I can't find an answer to by searching the forums.

I've created a home movie from camcorder footage in Premier pro, exported it using pluginpac frameserver into tmpgenc plus 2.5.

I've encoded it using the default settingsfrom avi to mpeg 2(m2v i think), then I've used tmpgenc dvd author to create the dvd files and burned it using the same program.

The finished DVD is of good quality and plays fine on the PC but freezes quite a lot in the same places on my Cyberhome ADL528.

I've tried encoding it using intervideo wincoder but for some reason it stops encoding after 1 hr 22 mins wheras the footage is 1 hr 44 mins long. When using wincoder the finished dvd doesn't freeze on the player.

Is there any way to increase the amount of time to 1 hr 44 mins or any known probs with my other method? A lot of options in the wincoder software are greyed out.
The media I'm using is datawrite yellow DVD-R and my dvd writer is the pioneer 106 4x +-RW

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    thanks,

    Mick

It may be the media. Cheapo media will often booger up towards the end of the movie. Try a Maxell or Ritek and see if it plays all the way thru.

Make sure your disc is clean. That can cause that also.

Sounds like a media problem to me. I would bet 99% of the people on this site have experienced bad meida. I know I have, and I know bad media when I see it. Try Ritek it worked for me. Stay away from the cheap media like Princo. In addition, make sure you have the latest firm ware. It fixed some of my problems when I updated mine.

  4. Standalone players are more sensitive than PC DVD drives.

When does the movie freeze ?

If it always freeze when you reach the end of the disk and never
freeze at the beginning of the movie, then it's clearly a media problem.

    You can try:

    1) using more expensive medias from more well known brands (Fuji,
    Verbatim, Maxell, TDK, ...), and

    2) burning the disks at a lower speed (some standalone players have
problems reading disks burnt at 4x).

Did you check your source AVI for bad frames? Bad frames can cause the encode to barf out at that spot. That may be why the one encoder stops at 1:22 .

And of course cheap media is notorius for failing at the 80%+ mark of a DVD.

  6. Thanks for the advice. Forgive my ignorance but how do I check for bad frames?

    Cheers,
