If you live is US, try get an Apex player
If you live is Europe, search for Cyberhome players. Older are better (and cheaper)
    Pioneer players are good.
Sony players mainly will not play home made media...

  5. as far as dvd players go I would suggest geting a Daewoo dvg 3000n. I got mine for under 100 bux and it wrks great. Plus there is a hack to get into the manufacturer's seting so u can chane the region. It also plays my buffy dvd imports which are pal with no prob. So far the few vcd's I have made are working fine. Search the dvd players list at this site for more info.

  6. No - will not look as good on PC because PC monitors support higher line of resolutions & pixels than TV screens, unless you have like a digital TV, Sony wega, etc..then maybe.

No - U.S. bought/shipped PS2s do not play VCDs straight out of the box. Rumors are that there are some mods, that allow for 15 mins of play time. But I have yet to see one.

Personally I would stay away from Apex, you get what ya pay for with those. That Daewoo is nice, GE's are good (especially with hacked firmware, but thats whole other story, )

  7. In my experience, when you watch vcds with a dvd player the picture is better, 'cause the tv blurs the imperfections that the vcd encoding does!

I found that the pioneer player plays vcd best. DV-340 or DV-343 to be exact. The DV-444 model does not play them good. I've also tried sony, JVC and philips models and all fail miserably

    Phillips 711 no doubt.

Plays all VCDS (imported from Asia too). Plays CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

Most other DVD players I've tried can not read VCDS from India or Pakistan as they are low quality CDs. But the Phillips 711 does the trick.
