A poster at cdrlabs found a mention of the DDW-082 on nu techs site. http://www.nu-global.com/1_english/2_new/01_01_news.php?nID=0&pID=32
It seems to point to a new -/+ drive. I did a search for this drive and found it in the supported writers list for Alcohol series software. Sure enough its a dual format drive. http://www.alcohol-soft.com/devsupp/deviceinfo.php?VendorName=QSI&B1=submit Does this kill the hope of a firmware flash to upgrade the 081.

Well, if the hardware is the same, then maybe just flashing the 081 with the 082 firmware would do the trick.

Now I wonder if I should get the DDW-081 while its 139 at zipzoomfly or wait on the new one. Do the drive makers have to pay a fee to the people behind-/+ formats? If so how much does that raise the price of drives?
