  1. Ok first, there is this 1 to 59 normal channels for my isp
and theres this 2nd ( which we have right now ) over 400+ channels and it requires a receiver

so my plan is since my computer is in my room, I see a tv plug ( for my cable modem ) so I'll get a tv spliter or whatever you call that so you can have the tv and cable modem into the plug...

now how would I get it to work? do I need a crappy receiver? do I need the 400+ channels receiver ( only 1 per home they said I think ) I've also heard of the wireless ( be able to switch channels wirelessly ) but the problem is what if someone's watching tv in the living room, they would be watching what Im watching...

so my plan is just to be able to watch those normal 1 to 59 normal channels on my computer...

Im not sure what I need and I am not sure if this will work
so please tell me if this will work and what are the things I need

by the way I have Radeon9600Pro w/ tv out but the problem is the tv is up stairs. and will the tv turner will me good clear pictures with no slow down?

    thanks a lot!

It sounds like you have digital cable service which requires a set-top box. The Jerrold/General Instruments box that Comcast uses in the East (at least where I live) has composite a/v out. What I do is split the incoming rg59 coax cable into both the tv and cable box and use a/v cables to the line input of the tv so I can tune the unscrambled channels directly through the tv and one scrambled/digital channel through the line input. You probably need a three-way splitter: cable modem, cable box, computer input.

With the cable going to the cable box then to TV, I have ALL the channels available.

With the cable split to the Vid card in the computer, I get 69 non-digital channels, and change channels with the tuner on the card.

With the Cable box output split and fed to the Vid card, I can get all the channels the box will unfilter or whatever you may call it, but must change channels with the box, channel 3 only works on the TV Tuner card..

Split the cable before the cable modem and hook up to your Vid card and enjoy those 59 you say your ISP provides, that is, if your card does have a tuner built in. I hear some don't.

    Cheers,

    George

    Elite,

No, you don't need a cable box if you don't have to watch the digital channels.

You do need a video in card, with tuner to watch them.

If you think you might want to, in future, capture either TV or your own VHS tapes, you should get a decent one, maybe an ATI AIW 7000, 7500, because of the price being so much lower than 9000 series, or cheaper if you only want to watch TV.

I have MSI, Pinnacle, Hauppage, Maxxron, like the MSI best, 50 bucks a year or two ago, easiest to set up, worked first time.

    Cheers,

    George
