  1. Well I have just been using TMPGenc to convert a 700mb avi, 1hour 30min file, and it has stopped the process at 97% with a stream writing error message.
The 97% is 4.1Gb, with 3.57Gb space left!
Help please, someone tell me what is going on, as this is the 3rd time this has happened to me.

    Thanks

I see you're running Windows 2000. Is the hard drive that you're saving the file to NTFS or FAT? Sounds like a 4gig limit problem to me.

If Fat is your file system it is the most likely reason for your problem.
You can covert your fat drive to ntfs by using the commandline and running this
"convert c: /fs:ntfs" without the quotes (microsoft provides a built in utility)
Simple and painless, and no more 4GB file limitations.
Just shut up and listen dumbass

Use VDUB to check your source for bad frames; Bad frames cause TMPGEnc to barf.

ALso, if your fat32 it will also crash when you hit 4 GB(smells like your problem).

If you do have bad frames...try using one of the repair programs listed on this site:

  8. Thanks for all your replies.
first I will check for bad frames, then it looks like changing from a FAT32 to a NTFS filesystem.

Thanks again. I'll post back what happens

  9. Well, there were no bad frames in either of the 2 avi files I checked with vdub. Those were the ones which gave me the stream writing errors with TMPGenc.
Anyway, I converted the FAT32 file system to NTFS, and now I have a 5.1Gb file which TMPGenc is converting for me.

Thanks again for your help and advice
