Dual recorders are much less compatible for dvd+ than dvd+ only recorders because they are unable to set book type. So if dvd+ wins you have a recorder that writes less compatible dvd+ than the rest. I was thinking in buying a dual but i have many daughts now. Why manufacturares don't make dual able to set book type?....Should we email them to do so?

My understanding is that only Ricoh-built drives and HP-sold drives allow or require a nonstandard booktype. Other manufacturers say that a nonstandard booktype is just that--nonstandard, a direct violation of the DVD+R/+RW standard--and refuse to permit it. Theoretically, I guess, the DVD+R/+RW standards organization could force Ricoh (or at least HP) to remove the RW logo from their drives.
But of course that won't happen, because the best evidence still suggests, just as you say, that only by setting a nonstandard booktype can + reach the same level of compatibility with older DVD players that DVD-R enjoys.
