  1. Amazon is selling Iomega's Dual 4x DVD +/-RW Writer for $122, and there's a $30 rebate on Iomega's site. Total cost, after rebate and including shipping: $92!

Wow. Rebate requires purchase by Nov 22.

    Postscript:
Here's the Amazon link, but it's completely different now. It used to be $121.99, from Amazon (with free shipping). Now the price is $169.88! And it's from J&R (shipping extra). Maybe Amazon sold out?

Check the link to Comp-U-Plus that noki posted below, it's $83 AR (before shipping, however).

Lastly, buy.com has it for $119.99 shipped ($89.99 AR).

    Sub $100 4x DVDR.

    Dam.

A year ago we were lauding sub $200 for a 2x. We were exstatic about 2x dual foramt drive for $300 (for 10 bonus points, name that first drive!)

So next year this time will will have the 8x +R, 4x +RW, 4x -R, 2x -RW drives for the same price (yes, I don't ever expect to see 8x -R burners, since the technical hurdles are quite expensive).

Makes ya wonder about $300 HP burners doesn't it? Whay are they worth the $$$? (they aren't). I don't see how the major chains can compete, they have lead times in excess of 6 months on these products. Either they are getting screwed with higher prices, or they are making huge profits from the lower wholesale costs.

    from www.tomshardware.com:
Pioneer's DVR-A07 is an internal drive that is designed to write data at eight times (8x) the normal DVD playback speed, both to DVD-R discs (a standard that is being ratified) and to +R discs that are designed for this recording speed.

The drive also records high-speed DVD-RW and +RW discs at up to 4x speed, according to Pioneer. In addition, they incorporate what the company calls "Precision Recording Technology," designed to improve image quality in DVD-RW discs that are used repeatedly.

Pioneer said the DVR-A07 is expected to be available in December.

  7. I hope this fall in burner prices means cheaper DVD standalone consumer boxes. I want to ditch my VCR. I know I can use a DVR but I like being able to burn off a copy if I want. Those standalones are still in the $400-$500 range.
