  1. Hi,

I wonder anyone can help me to clarify this or not.

I have been told recently that if you use cheap DVD media, even you can burn but you will lose the data after a period of time. It is very threatening.

Can anyone tell me whether it is true or not...?
    I am a bit confused....

You can lose it right after you burn. Bought some cheap media when I first got my panasonic recorder. Could not rip them to my hardrive after burned. I have stayed clear of cheap media ever since. It's not only a waste of money but also a waste of time.

  3. Cheap media uses cheap dies for the burning surface. Unfortunately cheap dies mean unstable dies which degrade fairly quickly which means that a DVD or CD can become unreadable in anything from a month onwards. Find out who makes your DVD discs (there is software available in the tools section of this site) and check with the makers web site. Ritek says 30 years, and Taiyo Uden say 100 years but other makers make no guarantee's as to life so you take a real chance using their products.

  4. Tks for advice. However, those famous manufacturers also produce DVD media for other oem brands. As far as I know, there is more than 10 different dies chemical that they ( ex. Ritek ) use for different oem brands. So, we must stick to the original brand name to ensure getting the quality media ?
