  1. Is there anything you can do before encoding when theres no audio in the source file when you play it on your pc?

    Dude! If there isnt any audio then there isnt any audio. Make sure you have the proper codec if it is an avi, otherwise the only other thing you can do is read lips.

    Yes it would if you had the video codec, but if you didnt have the audio codec then no sound. Does this happen with an mpeg movie?

    Yes, it will play the video if you have the video codec. You need an audio codec. Test your file with Gspot, it will tell you what you need, probably AC3. If you're using TMPGEnc then it's best to extract the AC3 to wav before encoding.
