These 2 drives are about the same price after rebate.
The sony has 8 meg buffer, pioneer has 2 meg.
I'm leaning toward the pioneer just because I don't
want to support Sony.
Or should I buy an ide drive and get the firewire/usb enclosure.
Meritline has the pioneer one for 215 with their enclosure.
Thanks for you opinion.![]()

2 of my Sony CDRW drives died for no reason and I had no courage to try for the 3rd time. I own Pioneer DVD-RW A04 (over a year) and despite 2 Meg buffer I have yet to make a coaster. Independent of buffer underrun protection technology used, 2 Meg buffer quickly baceme a standard (that was the reason for this technology to emerge, to eliminate large buffer memory and rid of pesky buffer underrun error; "larger buffer less likely to get empty..."). Sony drive has excellent marks, so does Pioneer. Check users experiences in Google groups and go for it. Whichever you buy is gonna be fun, that's for sure.
